Creating Your Sanctuary

Creating Your Sanctuary

In 2021, let’s all agree to make our bedrooms our sanctuaries.

I’ve worked from home since March, and between spending all day at my desk and all evening in the living room, my bedroom is the one room I’m not sick of by the end of the day. In fact, the general guidelines for good sleep state that bedrooms should be reserved for sleeping only. But whether working from home has forced your bedroom to double as an office space or not, there are still measures that can be taken to ensure you’re getting the best sleep possible.

The Mulberry Silk collection made up of duvets, mattress pads, pillows and accessories, is an excellent line to aid in quality of sleep, and better yet, Ocean Sales is having a bedding sale in January. Silk is a fantastic option for winter because it acts as a reflector rather than an insulator. This means that it gently reflects body warmth without overheating and has the natural ability to wick away moisture and keep your body dry. Silk is one of the strongest natural fibres – so strong that parachutes and bulletproof vests were once made of pure silk – so they do not break down over the years as you wash it. Most silk duvets on the market are made of mixed grades and are not washable, but the Mulberry Silk collection is made of the highest AAA grade, long-strand Bombyx Mori silk, which makes it safe to clean in a front-load washer.

Because silk fibres are spun in a cocoon by the common silkworm, silk is naturally designed to shield from dust mites, mold, mildew, and other common allergens. Silk is also exempt from chemical treatments, which is why it can be a life-changing option for people who suffer from allergies.

Sleep is incredibly important to support healthy brain function and maintaining physical health, and ongoing sleep deficiency can raise your risk for chronic health problems and affect how well you think, react, work, learn and get along with others.  Getting enough quality sleep at night helps you function throughout the day. And quite frankly, 2020 was hard enough; I think we all owe it to ourselves to commit to our overall wellbeing as we take on the new year.
